Annual Award for Mentoring and Coaching MSOD Alumni In 1995, there were no nominees for the Kathleen Emery Award for Mentoring and Coaching MSOD Alumni. During the 1995 MSOD Alumni Reunion in Seattle at the National OD Network Conference Bill Fitzgerald (Sigma) and Celia Durand (Omicron) facilitated a process among participants that enabled the honoring of several MSOD alumni. After viewing a video tape of Carol Anderson (the 1994 award recipient) participants were encouraged to share their mentoring experiences with colleagues at their tables. As each table reported out, several mentors were mentioned. Among them was David Peters, MSOD Professor and first MSOD Director, who had touched numerous lives. Several people from among the group at large noted the significance of David's contribution to their development. It seemed that David was the clear front runner to receive the Kathleen Emery Award, and the group appeared to acknowledge this by implicit consensus. Thus, a new process was developed: real time honoring of those who have mentored and coached us. This live process appears to be the most expeditious way to keep the spirit of Kathleen Emery and David Peters alive, and it certainly requires less logistical management. So Bill and Celia recommend a repeat of this process at the 1996 MSOD Alumni Reunion in Orlando, FL. If you are planning to attend this session, please reflect on an MSOD Alumnus that you might speak about during this annual ceremony. The person you present should be someone who has supported or helped you in your organization development practice. We will take about forty-five minutes to honor these special people during the reunion. Hope to see you in Orlando. Celia Durand, OMICRON |
